My personal philosophy in teaching is to demystify the daunting and academic parts of music
and to build a personal understanding of a universal language, from one person to another.
As a self-taught guitar player, I know very well the struggle of trying to navigate the endless
information available to us when trying to learn. Years of effort can be saved and years of greater progress
made with someone to guide and introduce you to information you can use, and to explain it along the way
in a way that can be understood.
After spending time in college learning what I couldn't teach myself, I was able to fill gaps
in my understanding and fit distant pieces together for the first time. I learned to read and write both
standard notation and lead sheets, learned to transcribe and learn by ear better than any Youtube
video alone could teach me, and learned music theory to a point that harmonic and melodic analysis
of music I like became fun and made me see where music is similar before where it's different.
Overall, the most important thing I've learned along the way is that music is meant to be shared.
As a teacher of guitar, piano and bass guitar, I am happy to share the understanding I've gained over the
years with others in the hopes that they'll be better than I could ever be in half the time it's taken me to
get here.
