King Super 20 Alto Sax

King Super-20 Alto Sax with a solid Sterling Silver neck and gold inlay on a solid Silver Bell

Introduced after World War II the legendary Super-20 line of saxophones found favor with many of the best American jazz musicians. It evolved from a line of saxophones made by King called the Zephyr.

The best of the Super-20 horns had a trademark under slung octave key and elaborate hand engraving. They produced a big, rich sound unlike any other saxophone.

This particular Super-20 had been owned late in his life by a studio musician in New York who was one of the founders of the Woodwind mouthpiece company and a gentleman who once hired Benny Goodman, so he told us, as a sideman. It’s one of several Super-20 altos in our collection.
